User Extractable Value (“UEV”) - Generating Utility Onchain
The big news in crypto was the acquisition of Bridge by Stripe for $1.1B. Bridge offers stablecoins APIs for developers. It is the largest crypto M&A transaction in history. This deal is important, especially with venture struggling to generate exits. Bridge, founded in 2022, shows investors that there is a path to liquidity besides IPO and token issuance. Stablecoins are having their moment and should attract more attention, capital, and entrepreneurs. This, combined with Tether making more money than Blackrock, establishes stablecoins as one the hot sectors in technology. Stablecoins remove friction from sending dollars, increase the velocity of money, and can be used by humans and bots/AI alike.
Below are recent studies and primary data sources to help you better understand the stablecoin market and generate UEV.
Nic Carter was one of the first stablecoin bulls. His venture firm, Castle Island Ventures generated one of the first stablecoin reports in 2020. In September 2024, Castle Island released an updated version called Stablecoins: The Emerging Market Story It is the most complete stablecoin report we’ve read with in-depth research on what emerging markets are using stablecoins for and why countries are adopting them.
The Bitwise team released a memo asking the question: Will Stablecoins replace money market funds? They include data on why investors should care about stablecoins, how stablecoins are taking off, and what does it means.
The API Economy focused on how Stablecoins are a monetary upgrade for the system. It focuses on the business of stablecoins, the unit of account and rational for dollars, and why internet money is better.
Pointsville wrote about how institutions can leverage stablecoins to drive profitability and global market efficiency. They believe that stablecoins give financial institutions a strategic advantage, access to new markets, and positions them as leaders in the digital economy.
Artemis Analytics created a Q3 2024 update for stablecoins. It shows that the total amount of stablecoins are increasing. The data shows numerous emerging use cases for stablecoins (remittances, FX swaps, etc) are all seeing record month/month transactions.
Artemis Analytics launched their stablecoin dashboard that shows realtime metrics. They released a detailed stablecoin market map that breaks the technology into sectors and shows the key players.
Visa launched an onchain dashboard that tracks stablecoin data and highlights important metrics. Adjusted stablecoin volume is up and to the right.
A Stablecoin Dashboard on Dune, which shows the stablecoin landscape on Ethereum and breaks it down into different sectors based on onchain data.
